SAP Clean Core gets real in VIM 23.4 SP3: feature overview & impact

Two themes stand out clearly in the latest SAP VIM release: a stronger foundation for Clean Core and an expanded layer of Fiori apps that simplify user interactions.

If you’ve ever lost time—or your patience—trying to troubleshoot VIM upgrades or navigating clunky approval flows, this release might feel like a quiet but meaningful reset. At Sollitics, we dove into 23.4 SP3 to see what’s really new—and how it helps both the people using VIM and the teams managing it behind the scenes.

Clean core in SAP VIM 23.4 SP3: less custom code, more upgrade stability

“Clean Core” is SAP’s way of saying: stop burying custom logic inside the engine. Instead, use APIs, CDS views, and extension layers that don’t break with every upgrade. It’s about future-proofing your system but also about reclaiming sanity for the people who maintain it.

Daan, one of our VIM consultants, put it simply:

The moment you decouple logic from code, upgrades stop feeling like defusing a bomb.

This release backs that mindset with features like:

  • Extended use of Approval APIs and CDS views, allowing business logic to live outside the core
  • Cleaner separation in workflow configuration, making it easier to diagnose and adapt flows

If you’ve ever had to reverse-engineer a 5-year-old enhancement to see why something’s failing, this change is a welcome shift.

SAP VIM Fiori apps in 23.4 SP3: simplifying workflows & user experience

Fiori apps aren’t just prettierthey abstract complexity. Instead of hopping between transaction codes or config layers, users now get guided views that surface the right information at the right time.

Analyze Business Entity Determination
Visualize how SAP determines vendor and company codes, includingconfidence scoring. Especially helpful when something doesn’t match and you don’t know why.

Manage Pre-Learning of Capture Profiles
Train recognition logic with existing invoice data, even before the first one hits your inbox. Saves time and reduces manual validation later.

Personal Preference Settings: Add substitutes, see pending feedback, and get email alerts when new invoices come in.

These apps help both accounting teams and consultants reduce guesswork and repetitive steps. As Daan noted in our internal review.

They take away the noise so people can actually focus on the decisions.

SAP VIM features for accounting and backend users

Not every improvement in 23.4 SP3 is shiny—but some fix real pain.

  • Transportation Management integration: Link invoices directly to container and transport details. No more digging through tabs or asking someone from logistics.
  • Auto Posting & Coding config updates: You can now filter, sort, and manage config access more easily. A small win that matters when you’re working with large datasets.
  • Improved VAT number validation: Foreign vendor IDs no longer stop the process unnecessarily. Less manual fixing, more flow.
  • India MSME payment rule: Ensures compliant payment terms for small suppliers—automatically.

Each of these might seem minor until you’ve been on the receiving end of that error message on a Friday afternoon.

Minor enhancements in SAP VIM 23.4 SP3 that reduce friction

Some updates are subtle—but they reduce friction daily:

  • “Approve + Next” in Fiori Inbox: No more jumping in and out to process a stack of invoices.
  • Blocked Invoices shown in Overview Cards: Visibility without needing reports.
  • Optional pop-up bypass: Say goodbye to unnecessary confirmation screens.
  • Bugfixes: Quiet fixes that make the platform feel more stable overall.

You won’t see these on a flashy slide, but users will feel the difference.

Should you upgrade to SAP VIM 23.4 SP3?

If your current VIM setup includes heavy custom code, clunky config, or outdated workflows—this release might be the push you need.

With Clean Core principles now embedded at platform level, and features designed to reduce both technical debt and user frustration, 23.4 SP3 creates a solid case for upgrading.

You don’t have to do it all at once. But standing still might start costing more than moving forward.

We’re ready when you are.
